A dermatology clinic had diagnosed it as a corn, so the patient had believed that all along.

Three months prior, they had undergone cryotherapy for the corn at another clinic, but saw no improvement. As time passed, the discomfort and pain with every step grew worse — which is what brought them to see our director, Dr. Jo Ju-won, at Gangnam Standard Orthopedic Clinic.

Even after being seen at a dermatology clinic and being told it was a corn, the patient simply continued receiving corn treatment.

The area beneath the big toe was painful and felt as though something was pressing on it from inside with every step. Despite visiting a clinic, an accurate diagnosis had not been made.

Today, after coming in to Gangnam Standard Orthopedic Clinic — a clinic experienced in corn and skin lesion removal — a thorough examination revealed a palpable lump beneath the big toe. An ultrasound was performed, and two benign tumors (plantar masses) were found to be present in the sole of the foot.

The benign tumors were sitting in a very well-defined, rounded shape directly beneath the sole. The bothersome masses were removed, along with a loosely attached fragment of tissue that was cleared away completely.

The benign tumors were rounded like small pearls, positioned beneath the big toe. This is likely what had been causing the crushing pain with each step, along with the sensation of something embedded in the skin — similar to the feeling of a corn.

Because the benign tumors inside the sole were very round and had not spread or dispersed, they were consistently causing discomfort and pain in that localized area.

These small, marble-like growths had been sitting inside the sole of the foot all along.

The patient had trusted the corn diagnosis and had only been receiving cryotherapy — until today, when they were finally able to have the plantar benign tumors properly removed at Gangnam Standard Orthopedic Clinic, leaving with a great sense of relief.
